Sahara Group has reaffirmed its dedication to Africa’s energy transition in its 2024 sustainability report, titled “Beyond Energy: Fostering Africa’s Sustainable Future.” The report aligns with Global Reporting Initiative Standards and highlights the company’s efforts toward the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Group is focusing on gas and renewable energy as central to its sustainability strategy, while also implementing nature-based carbon mitigation and enhancing operational efficiency. Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) risk management has been institutionalized across all operations, integrating sustainability into strategic decision-making.
Notable achievements in 2024 include over four million man-hours with zero lost-time injuries, recycling initiatives that avoided 612,498 kg of CO₂ emissions, recovery of more than 210,000 kg of recyclables, and payments totaling N43.5 million to over 1,000 waste collectors. Sahara also impacted over 75,000 lives through 13 corporate social responsibility projects across 11 countries, including biodiversity and reforestation initiatives in Ghana, Tanzania, Nigeria, and Dubai, and the training of more than 11,000 students in green entrepreneurship at the University of Lagos.
Sahara’s sustainability approach spans upstream, midstream, downstream, and power operations, prioritizing emissions reduction, technology-driven innovation, and energy efficiency. Gas remains a key transition fuel, complemented by pilot solar projects. The Group emphasizes that sustainability is not only environmental but also human, aiming to empower its workforce, build community resilience, and promote inclusive growth, particularly for underserved communities.
